I have a new niece! Here she is at just one day old…

And of course a precious little baby girl needs some handmade gifts from her Aunty.
First of all a little skirt…

My second ever piece of clothing – made from this great tutorial by Amanda (who now blogs at The Modern Marigold.)

I really enjoyed making this little skirt! I was surprised, actually, at how much of a sense of achievement I felt. I think my favourite sewing projects are those that are functional, and nothing is really more functional than clothing.
I also made this bib, or body apron, which is very aptly named a Bapron! I followed this great tutorial from Jess at Craftiness Is Not Optional. I reduced the pattern to 75%, to make it more suitable for a smaller baby.

And lastly I made another bib. This one is probably more for showing than blowing, if you get my meaning.

This was my first try at paper-piecing and I LOVED it! I want to do more, more, more!! I also got out my never-before-used ruffler foot and experimented on some mint green ribbon. I can see me using this foot a LOT more. Hooray for easy ruffles!
The bib is fastened with snaps – I put two rows on for adjustability.
I remember never being very fond of velcro on bibs as it could be a little scratchy on my babies’ soft skin.

I added some little bows on a whim to balance it out. I really dig this vintagey palette of candy pink, mint green and black polka dots!
My sister loved all of the gifts for her new baby daughter, thankfully!
And just for extra sweetness, here is a little more newborn baby wonderfulness!

She’s so precious. Thank you for sharing the tutorials you used. I’m always on the look out for great baby shower gifts. These are so unique.
The skirt is so easy to make! No wonder it is Amanda’s go-to baby gift.
Congratulations Kelly. Your girl is very pretty. I’m sure she will be an excellent quiltera.
Thank you Yasmin. I’m sure my niece will be creative in some form!

Congratulations on the new niece. Precious gifts for a precious baby girl
Thanks Ann! She is my second only niece. Between us my sisters and I have 5 boys and 2 girls. I have 3 of the boys, one sister has 1 boy, and the other sister has 1 boy and 2 girls. Don’t know why she got to be the lucky one to be blessed with girls!
She’s beautiful and is going to look even more so in her lovely gifts
Thank you Sandra!

Your niece is gorgeous and what a lovely skirt! Love your blog so if you don’t mind I’m just going continue mooching through it for some more gorgeousness xx
Mooch away, my dear!
Kelly, just found your blog after seeing you won the Pillow from Corey. Beautiful blog! What is the name of the fabric you used for th bapron? It is soooooo cute!
Hi Charlotte! Glad you could stop by.
Now you have got me thinking…I’ll just run to my sewing room and see if I can find the selvedge. Ok, who I am kidding, I’m totally not running.
…Ok no selvedges to be found, but after a bit of googling I found out the name of the fabric line is Lily Pond by Wendy Slotboom. It’s an older line so I’m not sure if there’s much around to be found. Sorry!
Simply perfect! Congratulations on the new niece!
Thank you Kristina!
I was wondering if you have a pattern for the 2nd pieced bib. I love it!
Hi Peggie! The pattern was from a book I borrowed from the library, called ‘Hearts and Flowers Quilt Block Designs’ by Jodie Davis. If you email me your address I could send you a photocopy of the ice-cream page if you like. I don’t think that’s breaking any copyright laws!
Congratulations on being an auntie – your little neice is a precious angel indeed!
Love the gifts – and yes, that bib is divine, but definitely a show piece.
Congratulations on winning Corey’s cushion!!! It’s the prettiest thing (besides your baby niece).
Hugs
Jenny
How thrilling to receive a visit from you! I read your blog often – more of a lurker than a commenter though, I’m afraid.
Thanks for your kind words! And yes, I am soooo thrilled about winning Corey’s cushion. I feel so so so lucky.
Awwww congratulations. Your new niece is precious.
Wow your baby gifts are gorgeous. I bet your sister really loved them. Your very creative. I also love the colors you chose. Vintage is the perfect way to describe them.
