Week Eight of the {Make} A Bag Sew Along.
The last project in the sew along is a keyring decoration. What could be more fitting than to make a teeny tiny tote as a little celebration of all this bag making! I just love this little project – so easy and fast to make and cute as heck!

Materials you’ll need this week from your supplies:
- your 5″ x 5″ squares
- light fusible interfacing
- lobster clasp
{Click on any image to see a larger version.}
Choose 2 of your 5″ x 5″ squares. You should have 2 left, if you started with 40 as listed in the supplies.
Iron the light interfacing to the wrong side of one of the 2″ x 5″ rectangles.
Fold down about 1/4″ on each short end of this rectangle, toward the interfacing side. Sew in place.
Fold the rectangle in half with right sides together and with the folded edge being the short edge. Pin in place.
Sew down both sides of your teeny tiny tote. Clip the bottom corners. Turn the right way out, push out the corners and press lightly.
From the other 5″ square, take the piece measuring 3″ x 5″. Cut this in half to make 2 rectangles measuring 1.5″ x 5″. These will be the teeny tiny tote handles.
Fold both rectangles in half along the long edge and press to make a crease.
Now fold each long edge to the middle crease {just like when making binding tape}. Press.
Fold your rectangles in half again along the centre crease to hide all the raw edges. Press.
Sew down the open edge of the teeny tiny handles, about 1/8″ from the edge.
Thread both handles through the ring of the lobster clasp.
Put the raw edges of the handles inside the bag, positioning them so that they look proportionate to the bag. Pin in place.
Last step! Sew carefully along the top of the bag to sew the handles in place and close the bag.
And we’re finished the teeny tiny tote! It’s a perfect accessory for any teeny tiny bunnies who may happen to reside at your house.
Now, if you like, you can use the other parts of the squares not used in this tutorial to whip up another tote! {If you don’t have another lobster clasp you could just as easily use a regular split ring.} It hardly took me any time at all. Now I have one for my keys…
…and one to use as a zipper pull on my toiletries pouch…
And guess what? {Trumpets please…}
WE’RE FINISHED!! EVERYTHING!!
Tomorrow I’m going to get all the sew along items together to take a photo. I’ve been using everything as soon as it was made so by now they need a bit of a clean. When I have everything all sparkly and shiny I’ll upload a photo of the whole set.
Until then,
Happy Teeny Tiny Tote Making!

cute and very cool.
I might make mine usable. Put a bit of velcro in the top so that I can put it on my keyring for coins.
Awww. . . I’m gonna miss these tutorials! Your tutorials are some of the clearest most complete I’ve seen. I love your numbered photos. Your designs rock (love this little keychain tote!) Thanks so much Kelly! I’m looking forward to your next round of inspiration!

I’m already addicted to your blog, Kelly, and to this sew along. (By the way, I confess that I’ve keeping all these pdfs in a safe place in my computer, and I bought the fabrics too, but I still haven’t done it, it will be my own present for Christmas!)
So… I will be here every morning, looking for some more inspiration!
Thank you for all your effort, clear explanations and great photos!
You are so creative! These are too cute!
thankyou sew much for this bag sew a long . looking forward to more on line classes.
YAY! Now for me to get caught up! I’ve been distracted by my new Cricut that was given to me.
BUT I can use it to cut fabric so I can make fun appliques!
Thanks for all the work you did on this whole sew along. I know tutorials are NOT easy to do!
Hi Tiffany, The Cricut cuts fabric? Which model do you have and what type of fabric does it cut well? Thanks in advance for answering my questions
Cinnamon
Hi Tiffany, I’m reposting a question here for you so that you will receive a copy in your email. Cinnamon would like to know:

“Hi Tiffany, The Cricut cuts fabric? Which model do you have and what type of fabric does it cut well? Thanks in advance for answering my questions
Thanks Tiffany for your time!
Hi Cinnamon and Kelly.
I haven’t cut fabric with my Cricut yet (I have the baby bug) but have been told it’s possible. Most people who say it works use a stiffener of some sort on the fabric so it’s more like paper. I was thinking maybe starch(?) would make it stiff enough to stick to the mat. If I ever manage to try it, and get it to work, I’ll do a blog on it.
Let me know if you’ve ever gotten it to work.
Use freezer paper. Iron it to the fabric (right side I think) and place the fabric/freezer paper to the cutting mat. The freezer paper should be at the top. I imagine if the freezer paper leaves a mark on the fabric you can iron it to the wrong site and flip your design on the cricut so it cuts out mirrored. I have a cricut, have freezer paper, have fabric but haven’t had a chance to try it yet. But i’m told thats how you do it. Great little tote by the way, I found it on stumbleupon and now going off to look at your other tutorials. Melle in UK.
So cute and now I feel a bit sad that it is all over. A big big thank you for such a useful series of tutorials. I love your blog and can’t wait to see what you are doing. Thanks again Annie
What great tutorials, they are harder to make than you think. I just found this site and love it!!
These are so cute Kelly, thanks for your hard work and inspiration over the last few months with this, I hope to get all the items finished off tomorrow or Tuesday, and will post some photos when done. I can’t wait to hang this from my keys…..

Yay! Congrats on the writing/finishing. This little zipper pull is super cute, by the way. And now… onto the next project, right?
That is so cute! I can think of so many great uses for this- yay! Thanks so much, I’ll be linking.

Very clear tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
I just love your teeny tiny tote can’t wait to make for Granddaughters thanks for the design Pat
Thanks for sharing this tutorial! I just posted a link to it on our FB page: http://www.facebook.com/LibertyJaneClothing
We make doll clothes and patterns, our fans will love this!
So the inside is just the lightweight interfacing? I’d probably work this up with a lining to match the handle.
Hi!
Yes the inside has no lining as the top is sewn shut – it is just a decoration. You could definitely make a ‘useable’ version by adding lining and a tiny velcro closure. Debbie did just that – you can see her teeny tiny coin purse here:
http://artycrafty.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/sewing-sunday-sewalong-progress/
Ah, I see. I thought that’s what she was doing when it said to sew it shut. I’d have to make mine usable though, but it’s a great idea for when you can’t bring a purse along, only the necessities–so I’d add some velcro and make it a purse for cash or cards. I love it!
Hi again!
This little tote is only a keyring decoration, sorry! Not big enough for cash or cards.
There are some great purse/bag/clutch tutorials here under ‘Bags and Accessories’:

Hope this helps!
Kelly.
Hello. I have started a blog (last night!) and will be using it to make money for our local hospice. I’m addicted to craft blogs (thanks StumbleUpon for that!) and will be picking some tuts and making the items I see to auction for the charity. Can I use your Mini Tote Tut? I will be putting a link to the original tut blog of course.
Plus any new followers would good. ;o)
try leaving the bottom open and sewing in a piece of eyeglass cleaning fabric at the top. I love having the attached cleaning fabric to pull out then able to tuck back in vs fishing around the bottom of my purse for my cleaning cloth. Planning on making these as stocking stuffer this Christmas.
Whoa. That is teeny tiny! :O But it’s really cute! I’m not sure I could sew something so teeny but you did an awesome job.
