Hello good lookin’ people! Today is Week One of the {Make} A Bag Sew Along. I was tempted to name it {Make} A Bag With All The Bells & Whistles Sew Along, because that’s really what we’re making here! Over the next 8 weeks we’re going to make not only a bag, but a bunch of accessories to go with it. And not only that, I’ll show you how to do it with one charm pack and a bit of fabric. You could also choose to make this a scrap-buster project, by making your own charm pack from your scraps. Sounds good, huh? Here’s an example of what we’ll be making:
I have changed some of the projects slightly though, to make them more user-friendly.
{UPDATED: 19 Aug 10} Here is the whole set now completed!
The tutorials will be easy to follow, so if you’re a beginner sewer you can join in too! And remember, I’ll be here to answer any questions you may have. Generally these would be about the project but if you would like to ask me why the sky is blue or if they really gave Mr. Ed peanut butter to make him look like he was talking, that would be ok too.
Here’s a breakdown of the schedule (these will turn into links once they become available):
Week One – Gather Your Supplies
Week Two – {Make} A Bag – Part One
Week Three – {Make} A Bag – Part Two
Week Seven – Bits and Pieces Pouch
Week Eight – Keyring Decoration/Zipper Pull
And here are other related links:
Would you like to join in on the fun? I’d love if you sewed along, but I don’t mind if you start out with great intentions and end up doing a watch along! Please leave a comment and let me know you’re out there!
If you like, you can also add a button to your blog. I’ve made some spiffy ones for you!
Week One will be posted later today!

What a great sew along. I hope I can keep up with you.
Hi,
Just wanting to let you all know I’ve just written a post about the stiff interfacing and how Timtex/Peltex are not actually a good substitute.
Please have a look before you go shopping.
I’ve grabbed a button and hope to join in as well! Looks fun.

The same Susan again.
I meant to also say that I will have to check your profile every month at least now – to make sure you update the number of months that you are old!!
and also I tried copying the code for the second button – but couldnt make it wotk – the first one is fine – so its on my blog now – not that I have a lot of followers but . .
Take Care
Susan
Hi Susan, I’m afraid you’ve caught me out there! I’m actually nearly 378 months old…but shhh! Don’t tell anyone. A girl’s allowed to lie a little about her age, isn’t she?
As for your button question, I’ve added some tips to the questions and answers post.
I’m going to join in, sounds like fun. Thanks so much for all of your efforts in putting this sew along together.
Hi I would like to join time permitting, this is very good of you it must take you a lot of time to set up. I would like to put your button on my blog but I’m not sure how as I am new to blogging any info would be appreciated.
Tess
Hi Tess,
I fixed your link so that it works now. (You’d accidentally typed your address in twice.
Basically, to add a button to your blogspot blog, you want to add a HTML/Javascript gadget on your Layout page. I’ve written a bit of a how to on the Questions and Answers post.
I’ll take part of your sew-along-bag…. Maybe not your speed but my pace. Looking forward to it!!
Susanne
This is Tess again the last message didnt link to my blog so I trying this way.
Thanks for this lovely idea. I will try to keep up with you but I really can’t promise anything.

Count me in!
This should be great fun. I will be returning home after a 32 day vacation in Florida in a few days. Can’t wait to get on my sewing machine.
Really? You mean it? These are “beginner friendly”???? They certainly don’t look it, but ya know what… I’m jumping in! LOL I’ve made totes, but I have a “fear of zippers” LOL
(because I’ve never sewn one for one! LOL) But this sounds great! I wanna play.
and I’m a new follower.
Hi Jeanette!
Yes, I do think beginners would find these projects easy enough. They are fairly straightforward. I added some clarification to the term “Beginners” to the Questions and Answers.
The zip I’ll be doing is the easiest way to insert a zip. Doing it this way, you’ll have no need to fear them any longer!
Such fun. I will try to keep up. Will you be sending email to alert me to week 2?
Nancy in IN
Hi Nancy.
You can be alerted about new posts on my blog by subscribing to it. You can either subscribe in a reader, or subscribe by email. The links are near the top of my sidebar under “Subscribe”. If you subscribe by email, you are sent a new email every time I publish a new post to my blog. These will primarily be related to the sew along over the next 7-8 weeks, but will also contain any other posts I publish…assuming I get the time! Augh!
This will be my first bag. I have always said I am not a bags do not interest me, but hey – I can change, can’t I? Cant wait for the first lesson to come out.
I’m joining in! I am not sure how I will manage since I haven’t made many bags, but I am looking forward to learning a new skill
Thanks for hosting this!
lv,
Joy
