Hello good lookin’ people! Today is Week One of the {Make} A Bag Sew Along. I was tempted to name it {Make} A Bag With All The Bells & Whistles Sew Along, because that’s really what we’re making here! Over the next 8 weeks we’re going to make not only a bag, but a bunch of accessories to go with it. And not only that, I’ll show you how to do it with one charm pack and a bit of fabric. You could also choose to make this a scrap-buster project, by making your own charm pack from your scraps. Sounds good, huh? Here’s an example of what we’ll be making:
I have changed some of the projects slightly though, to make them more user-friendly.
{UPDATED: 19 Aug 10} Here is the whole set now completed!
The tutorials will be easy to follow, so if you’re a beginner sewer you can join in too! And remember, I’ll be here to answer any questions you may have. Generally these would be about the project but if you would like to ask me why the sky is blue or if they really gave Mr. Ed peanut butter to make him look like he was talking, that would be ok too.
Here’s a breakdown of the schedule (these will turn into links once they become available):
Week One – Gather Your Supplies
Week Two – {Make} A Bag – Part One
Week Three – {Make} A Bag – Part Two
Week Seven – Bits and Pieces Pouch
Week Eight – Keyring Decoration/Zipper Pull
And here are other related links:
Would you like to join in on the fun? I’d love if you sewed along, but I don’t mind if you start out with great intentions and end up doing a watch along! Please leave a comment and let me know you’re out there!
If you like, you can also add a button to your blog. I’ve made some spiffy ones for you!
Week One will be posted later today!

My name is Kelly. I am 372 months old, according to my mother. {I keep telling her she can stop counting in months now.}

I just find this today and think this would be great for me. The reason being I have just got a sewing machine and need to learn how to sew, so why not take part.
I just finshed the bag. Using pieces from a charm pack “Califon by Mark Lipinski” and some of my stach. A fun project. Can’t wait to see what is next. Thanks
Dont have time to start yet ANOTHER project right now (LOL), but NEED to know how long this will be available?

I started today, had laid my 5 inch blocks out yesterday. I misread the direction 2 x 20 inch pieces to mean 2 inch by 20 inches. Oops, back to stash for 20 inch square piece. I’ll see what I can misread next. Camping for 4 year old grand tomorrow night so Saturday is my next try. Since I don’t wear/carry makeup, I don’t know if I’ll make makeup roll. Like the coin purse. Thanks for all

Friday I’m taking my tote to our county fair as an entry. I’m looking forward to what others say. I have a picture, but don’t know where to put it.
Next the toiletries pouch. Thanks so much.
OK I know this is what you have been waiting for….I just finished making my little roll-up thingie and I am caught up so now you can go on and post the next piece! Oh wait you mean that’s not what you are waiting for, you actually have a life outside of posting wonderful stitch-alongs? Imagine that!! Anyway, I am having so much fun sewing these pieces, and your instructions are wonderful. And it occurred to me today that it would be extremely easy to make these using just a piece or two of fabric, and not do all the patchwork (although the patchwork is fun and I love it), if you wanted to make something fast and very “matchy” you could do it that way very easily…so I have gone back and marked all my patterns so I know what the finished size of each piece is so I can just cut a piece of fabric to fit! I just posted pictures of my pieces to your Flickr group!

Hello
I loved your blog.
I’m learning to do patchwork and I’m really in love with everything that relates to it.
And also loving to do stock
Congratulations for your Blog again.
Kelly,
Two weeks ago I hope you publish your “Week Six” or Sunglasses … and I have not had access to it.
Will be that you notice of something and I did not understand or I missed it.
Please help me to know what happened.
Thanks,
Yasmin
